Embarking on our homeschooling journey from our boat with our two boys, aged 11 and 7, has been an incredible adventure filled with ups and downs. But one thing that's kept us steady amidst the waves is the reliable internet connection we get from Starlink.
Our days start with about 3.5 hours of schoolwork, tailored to fit the needs of our lively duo. But it's not just about textbooks and worksheets for us. We're lucky enough to be able to explore historical landmarks and museums across Spain, Portugal, and France, adding a hands-on element to their education that you just can't get from a classroom.
Starlink has truly been a game-changer for us. With its lightning-fast speeds averaging around 100 Mbps, we're able to download educational materials, join virtual classes, and conduct research in record time, regardless of where we are on our maritime journey. And its extensive coverage means that even when we're out in the middle of nowhere, we're still able to connect to the world. In fact, Starlink's coverage extends to over 99% of populated areas in our region, ensuring that we're never far from a reliable connection. It's been a lifesaver on those days when the weather keeps us cooped up inside, ensuring that our boys can keep up with their studies without missing a beat.
You can sign up to starlink here. As a disclaimer if you sign up we will get a free month. As always we would never recommend a product we don't use and trust. We currently pay 300 a month for our plan.
And let's not forget the paperwork! We're officially registered with Education Queensland in Australia, so we have to stay on top of our progress reports to make sure we're staying compliant. It's a bit of a hassle, but seeing how much our boys have grown and learned makes it all worth it in the end.
We've also had to get creative with our curriculum. We've made some tweaks here and there to fit our lifestyle, but overall, the Euka curriculum has been a great fit for us. And while iPads and keyboards are great for certain subjects, there's just something about good old-fashioned paper and pencils that can't be beat.
But it's not all about academics for us. We're also focused on raising kind, empathetic young men who are aware of the world around them. That's why we've started incorporating activities like coding into our routine, using our iPads as virtual laboratories. And while we may not have access to a traditional chemistry lab, we've found plenty of ways to explore the wonders of science right here on our boat.
In the end, our homeschooling journey is about so much more than just academics. It's about exploration, creativity, and above all, family. And with Starlink by our side, we're able to navigate the highs and lows of this adventure with confidence, knowing that no matter where the winds may take us, we'll always have a reliable connection to keep us grounded.
